Edinburgh

Early January Pamela and I decided to do a wee  break in Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh. We had been before and loved it. So this trip we went when the Christmas decor & lights were still on show in Prince’s Street. I decided to set myself a little project and take just one camera and one lens the Fujifilm X-Pro2 and XF35 F2 R, a brilliant wee  combination which fitted nicely into my pocket when not in use. The plan was to shoot a little street photography and generally all round pictures at various apertures with the ISO set to auto between 200 & 6400 and this just worked a treat. We had a mix of heavy rain, wintery showers and lovely fresh sunshine, just the norm for Scotland, so below Iv posted a selection of images that I like, a mix of colour and mono shot in raw edited in Adobe Lightroom and saved as an sRGB jpeg.

Abandoned, Lingerbay, Isle Of Harris

Late May 2017 brought us to the beautiful Isle Of Harris in the Outer Hebrides for a three day camping trip, we had been traveling for a few days, firstly Larne in Co, Antrim to Cairnryan, then up over the Erskine Bridge, past Loch Lomond, through Glencoe & Fortwilliam then setting up camp at Camasdarach between Arisaig & Mallaig. Next morning we boarded the ferry to the lovely Isle of Skye then onto Uig in north Skye for another ferry to Tarbet on Harris. We set up camp this time at Lickisto Blackhouse Camping a small scale low impact brilliant site owned by our lovely host John and resting on Loch Stockinish towards the east and more sheltered side of the island. I had recently purchased the Fujifilm GFX50S and the GF32-64 Lens and was looking forward to using this combination during our trip. We shot lots of beautiful landscapes of stunning Harris, beaches with their aqua blue waters, rugged hills and beautiful lochs but on our second day, a very hot sunny day without a cloud in the sky we came across an old abandoned croft at Lingerbay and after a bit of homework I found out it was the home of Neil Mac Cuish and his sister Mary. I was intrigued, i had to explore, there was the remains of an old blackhouse beside the croft, an old boat used for fishing, lobster pots and the like and inside the house were their abandoned belongings, clothes, furniture, tools and ornaments which provided a poignant reminder of days gone by. I made a dozen images, with respect I have to say, images that moved me, that made me want to know more and return, images that are a stark contrast to the pristine beaches with their aqua coloured sea, lochs and mountains usually associated with Harris, Ah yes, if walls could talk.
